VHS/VHS-C/Hi8/Mini DV/CD/DVD/Memory Card to USB Conversion FAQS

Why convert to USB?

USB sticks store data digitally which means your video can be easily played on a variety of devices whether that be on a computer, TV, tablet or other mobile device. Tapes are usually analogue and deteriorate over time. Furthermore, they are physically bulky and require old equipment to run them. Once digitised, the aging process stops and your videos are protected for years to come.

Can you convert from Beta?

We do not have players for Beta, however, we are more than happy to perform conversions for you if you can provide:

– a player for the tape (along with a power supply)
– the red/white/yellow RCA cable which connects to the player

Do I need to provide my own USB stick?

USB stick(s) will be provided for you at no extra cost so there is no need for you to provide one.

I would like more than one USB stick – is that possible?

IT God will provide a suitable USB stick for the task – this will usually be one USB stick. Upon request, additional USB sticks can be provided for an additional $10 each.

Will I get my tapes/DVDs back?

Yes, your tapes/DVDs will be returned to you along with your shiny new USB stick(s).

How many tapes/DVDs will fit on one USB stick?

The number of tapes/DVDs which will fit on one USB stick will vary based on the length of each tape/DVD. IT God will take care of selecting the appropriate USB stick for the task whether that be one large capacity or multiple smaller capacity USB sticks.

How long does the conversion take?

Most conversions are completed within 7 days, however, this may be longer if there is a large number of tapes/DVDs which need to be converted.

What format will the video file on the USB be?

Each tape will be converted to its own MPEG-4 (.mp4) file. This is a standard format which is compatible with most players such as Windows Media Player, TV’s and mobile/tablet devices.
